Wooden MDF mittens - just right for Christmas

Pair of wooden MDF mittens - just right for Christmas

Hi Craft addicts!

As Christmas is drawing ever nearer, I thought I would show you how I made these MDF mittens (approx 4" or 100mm). There are 2 different sizes so you could use one set for the tree and the larger ones for anywhere else! I have also made a box to go with them so they looks a bit more special.

I first of all painted the two mittens (which were in the Dreamees Christmas MDF pack)  with White Pebeo Gesso paint and allowed them to dry.

I then covered both sides with some red and white spotted paper which you can buy from Craft Creations and used some Cosmic Shimmer Matt, Seal and Glaze glue to "varnish" them - if you didn't want to use paper you could use red acrylic paint

Using the MDF shapes as templates to cut the paper out, they were slightly bigger than the shape but you can use sandpaper to smooth the edges (it also seals the paper to the MDF).

Once dry, I used a red Spectrum Noir alcohol marker to colour the sides to blend in.

You can decorate the mittens however you like but I used some gold and silver peel off sticker snowflakes which I had got from Craft Creations again. To make the "fur", I used some cotton wool gluing it down with some Cosmic Shimmer PVA glue

I then tied them together using some Red and white Baker's Twine (but you could use raffia or string).

As mentioned before, I wanted to make them good enough to give as a present, so I made up a prescored box and lid 115x178mm (approx) - this size allows enough room for the mittens to lie flat but I would add some white tissue paper to protect them. It is also shallow enough that it could be sent as a large letter!

I cut out a scalloped rectangle in the matching spotty paper using a Spellbinder die and glued it to the top of the box. Using the smaller mittens as templates, I cut out some red linen cardstock and used some narrow red liner tape and pink Highlighter dust (from Pinflair) to make the fur edges. I then added some of the red and white Baker's Twine to join them together and then stuck them down using Collall All purpose glue. To finish it off, I decorated them with some White Nuvo Crystal drops...

And there you are , one stylish and cute Christmas decoration that you could give as a gift. I will be adding this to my website soon.

Hearts and flowers wedding card which is personalised

Hearts and flowers gatefold wedding card

Hi Craft Addicts!

This is the card I made for the wedding of someone my daughter knows - wanted to make it special and one that linked in with the gift and gift box that I have mentioned in previous posts. So, I came up with the idea of a gatefold card (150x203mm) using the Couture Adoring Reflections die set and this is how I made it..

Heart 150x2013 gatefold card
So, I cut out both sides of the die (there are 8 different dies that you have to use) in both red and white linen cardstock and placed the red heart behind the white right hand panel and glued it to it using Collall All Purpose Glue. I then repeated the process using the white heart on the left hand side.

Once both were dry, I coloured the edge of the white panel using a red Spectrum Noir marker so it matched the red one. I then glued them (using Cosmic Shimmer PVA glue) to either side of the card making sure that they were level.

To personalise the card, I coloured the relevant letters using the same red Spectrum Noir marker and allowed them to dry. Once dry, I then glued them to the card using the Cosmic Shimmer glue. I also had the "&" letter from another "sticker" collection so glued it on the left hand side of the card (making sure that I didn't glue it to both sides of the card of course!)

I left the inside of the card blank as the message was going to be written by the people giving the card but you could easily find an insert that goes with the card. You could also perhaps decorate the envelope using stamps or embossing folders

If you would like me to make this (or any of the products I have mentioned) then why not get in touch with me here - You can buy this card from my website here

Wedding or Valentine's Day gift box

Wedding Day or Valentine's Day gift box

Hi Craft Addicts!

As mentioned in my last post, I made this box to hold the Heart gift I had made as a wedding gift...

The box is the Cream/Ivory multi media 5" x 5" box from Graphic 45 which I thought would make a lovely presentation box for the gift as it is very sturdy and looks good without having to add too many decorations - I have come to the conclusion that I don't really like things that are too fussy!

Gift box top - personalised with heartsFirst of all I stamped the floral heart onto white card using the stamp from the Vine Heart set from Tonic Studios and then cut it out using the die that is in the set.

I then used the die to cut out a "block" red heart in red linen cardstock which you can get from Craft Creations and the intricate heart in white linen cardstock which again I got from them too.

I coloured the floral heart in green and orange using Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers and stuck it to the panel using Collall All Purpose Glue (it gives a bit of "wiggle" time to get it in the right position and then glued the white detailed heart on to the red panel and stuck it on the panel too.

Once dry, I stuck the panel on to the reverse of the lid (it is hinged so it opens up) making sure that the hearts were in the right place and let it dry.

I then used Tonic Studios Alphabet dies and cut out in both red and white, the relevant letters including the "&". I placed the white solid letters in the place I wanted them, this time using Cosmic Shimmer PVA glue and then added the outline letters on top slightly offset so it gave a drop shadow effect and did the same to the "&" one too. Using the Red Berry Nuvo Crystal drops I added 3 pearl drops to the remaining corners and allowed them to dry.

Gift Box - inside - paper confetti hearts with gift
Using an EK Success heart shaped punch, I cut some red and white tissue paper hearts and scattered them in the base of the box and placed the gift on top (I wouldn't leave it in the cello wrap bag but I was sending it out) and then place some more hearts on top of that!

And there you are - a stylish gift box that can be used for any occasion where you want to show the person or people you care!

I have also shown below other colour variations and will be selling this gift box on my website soon.

Hearts wedding or Valentine's day present, card and gift box Part One

Hearts wedding or Valentine's Day present, gift box and greetings card - Part one...

Hi Craft Addicts!

Goodness it has been a few weeks since I last wrote on here - really must try harder! This post is showing how I made a stylish wedding gift including the gift box and wedding card which is relatively simple to make but does look really good.

Part One - the MDF Heart

Love MDF heart in red GiftFirst of all, I painted a MDF heart (approximately 8cm) in red which can be bought from Dreamees here using the DR3 Spectrum Noir Alcohol marker straight on to the MDF.

I waited for it to dry and then gave it another coat and repeated on the other side - I then painted the edge so that you couldn't see the MDF.

I then cut out 2 "Love" hearts in white (though it looks more cream in the pic) from the Tattered Lace Hearts set. if you haven't got these,  I sell the die-cuts in white here (Black, Red and Kraft colours are also available and using Cosmic Shimmer PVA glue I attached them to either side of the heart making sure that the hole in the heart wasn't covered and allowed them to dry.

Love MDF heart in red Gift
I cut a length of red and white Baker's Twine, threaded it through both the die cut and hole and knotted it so that the heart can now hang.

I then used  two coats of Modge Podge Matt varnish but you can also use Cosmic Shimmer's Matt, Glue, Seal and Glaze version too - they both do the job brilliantly.

I then added two drops of white (though it looks cream in the photo) Nuvo crystal drops on each side of the heart and let that dry.

And there you are - a stylish, inexpensive gift.

In my next post, I will be showing you how I made the gift box (using a Graphic 45 5" x 5" mixed media box.
